The guy was told he should seek help because he now and again fancies a drink at, i’m guessing, boring social events. It’s normal to want a drink now and again. Anyway, I hate to be “that person,” but I think the mentality the OP has cited is what most would call addiction. I’ve never understood how people can even call it “fun” if they have to call 20 different people the next day to figure out exactly what happened. Cutting out these substances can make you instantly feel years younger. You won’t have to nurse any more hangovers or take afternoon naps to get through the day. However, once you give up drinking or drugs, your life will change for the better in a multitude of ways.

Go to a 12-step meeting, find a sober group online, or call a sober friend who understands.

It happens a lot in sobriety because the brain is still trying to adjust to the lack of dopamine it used to get from alcohol. I used to celebrate each month of sobriety in my own special way but I recently lost that habit. Its not the only way to get sober mind you, but it beats staying home every night and doing nothing.
Why do I not like being sober?
The fear of being sober is often about dealing with your loss of a coping mechanism for “real” life. You're afraid you don't have the tools and resources to help you to maintain your sobriety. You are afraid that being sober will simply be too hard.
However, since my wife is my best friend, I continue to try to find happiness away from alcohol. In the end, though, I’ll probably go back to drinking, leave my wife and move far, far away from everyone.
